One Year Old

Wow! Happy Birthday, Elijah! Our sweet little one turned ONE today. It just seems like yesterday we posted this amazing video of his actual birth day.

There’s so much I want to say in this blog! :o) First of all, Eli, you have made mommy and daddy the happiest people in the world. We always sing “You Are My Sunshine” to you, and it’s such a perfect song. You truly are our sunshine each and every day. Even on the worst of days, when you’re fussy and I’m grumpy, it’s 10 times better than the days without you. Your daddy and I hope that we can be daily examples of God’s love for you. We will always strive to bring you up in His sight and try to guide you towards being a great man of God. Your name means “The Lord is my God,” and we gave it to you on purpose. It is the greatest and most important thing in the world. We love you, and we are so happy to be your blessed parents!

Ok, now that I’m crying, why not switch gears a bit? Prepare thyselves for the longest blog in the history of The Vienna Wilsons. Why not start by sharing what Eli has been up to the past month?

- Today Eli weighs 22 lbs. and he is around 30 inches long (it’s hard to tell with him being so squirmy).

- Eli is walking! And walking! And walking! It seems like overnight he just decided this was what he wants to do. He has started standing by himself as well. He’ll fall down, get back up and keep going! Even though crawling is faster, I think he is over it. It will be interesting to see what it will be like on the airplane!

- He has also discovered his voice. He babbles ALL the time now. It sounds so much like an actual language, I have to wonder what he’s trying to say. He does say “dog,” “uh-oh,” “daddy,” “mommy,” “my mommy,” and “my baby.” I’m thinking the last one is because I say “you’re my baby” to him all the time. He probably won’t like that for too long!

- Eli is finally eating better and has somewhat gotten over his texture issue. He now self-feeds quite a bit, but we still give him stage 3 baby foods to make sure he’s getting enough veggies and meat. He LOVES bananas and grilled cheese still…not to mention Cheerios. He will tolerate other things, but that will hopefully get better soon!

- Bath time is the best half-hour of the day. I usually just sit there and let him marinate for 20 minutes or so because he has such a great time splashing and squealing! He usually cries when I take him out, so I have to have a song or rubber duck waiting to quickly pacify. :o)

- Would you believe this happy boy has a temper? Oh yes. It goes away as quickly as it comes on, and it only happens when he’s told “no.” It usually comes with arm-flapping and a red face as well. I’m glad he still obeys, but it’s almost humorous how mad he gets. This is so shocking to me because Jeremy and I are so even-tempered. Yessiree.

- Eli still sleeps great. He sleeps around 11 hours at night (without interruption) and takes two naps a day. I’m so glad this is a normal thing for him! I like my sleep too!

- Luckily, we have not entered any stranger anxiety phases. He loves to be around other people! I have noticed that he really likes babies too. He will crawl (or walk) right up to them and head butt them. It really gentle, and I think he’s trying to mimic when I put my face up to his to cuddle. It’s pretty sweet as long as he doesn’t have much momentum going!

- He is kissing me and Jeremy! It pretty open-mouth and slobbery, but how could we not love it?

- Eli now has 6 teeth – 2 on bottom and 4 on top. I think more might be trying to come in because sometimes I’m afraid he’s going to bite the head off his giraffe.

- Some of his favorite activities include playing peek-a-boo, playing with a ball (or two), being read to (as long as HE can turn the pages), and riding on daddy’s shoulders. He always has to have something in each hand…even when he’s crawling or walking. It’s especially interesting when he’s crawling…

- Eli has definitely discovered throwing objects. I don’t think he’s throwing a tantrum, I think he’s just being a boy! If we put him in the pack n’ play, he will clear out every single toy in there. I’m sure to put only soft toys in with him because I seem to remember a story about a young lad that threw something out of his pack n’ play and took a chunk out of the TV. (cough, cough, Jeremy, cough)

- Eli has a happy dance. It developed around 8 months or so, but it never really went away. If he gets a toy or object he’s really happy to see, he will get on his belly, shove the toy in his face, kick really vigorously, and vocalize at the top of his lungs. It’s the happy dance, what can I say? It’s something to behold really!

I also wanted to use this post as an opportunity to document all of his firsts the past year. This blog has become my baby book of sorts, so I want to make sure this is remembered!

January 11, 2010 – First Birthday!

We were pretty low key with celebrating today since most of the time was spent packing and getting ready to leave tomorrow. Eli did get to open a few presents to have a few new toys to take on the airplane with him. Unfortunately, his cute little outfit got a bit of, ahem, poop on it, so we had to do a bit of a wardrobe change for the rest of the day. :o)

We are so excited about going to America! Family, friends, and food here we come. I only hope we don’t have to bring back a lot more suitcases to haul all of Eli’s stuff back home. I guess that’s a good problem to have, huh? I probably won’t be blogging much (or at all) the next 2 weeks in order to soak up as much time as we can with the fam. Ok, so back to packing, but I just have to say one more time…

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ELI!!!!

First off...happy birthday to your little one!

I found your blog while looking for the Vienna Babies Club website. You had a blog post mentioning the group.

My family also lives in Vienna! You can visit our blog to find out more about us. :) My little boys are 20 months & 3 months old (both born by c-section at Goldenes Kreuz). If you're interested, maybe we could meet sometime.
