Yesterday I spent around 7 hours getting first aid training at the Austrian Red Cross. Ever since I've had Eli, and especially since I started feeding him solids and he became mobile, I have wanted to be trained. There are just so many things a infant/toddler can get into or swallow. Not to mention, now that I have a little one, I am around a lot of other little ones during play time!
I was surprised at how all-encompassing the course was. I learned about everything from preserving severed limbs to treating motorcycle accident victims...

I also of course learned about the traditional CPR and mouth-to-mouth techniques as well. Those dummies were hard work!

I think one of the most interesting things the instructor told us was how many people die in accidents due to people being afraid to intervene. They are so scared of causing further spinal injury, they do nothing, so the person dies. He even told us a story about how people didn't move a motorcyclist out of the road after an accident, so a car came around the curve and killed him!
