And better than ever! We just got in from our whirlwind Eli-Comin’-to-America tour, and we had a great time. It was so nice to recharge our Euro engines with some good ol’ friends, family, shopping, and of course, eating. We are still battling jet lag, mainly because it’s hard to get your sleep in with a three month old. He’s a champ though, and I’m so proud of how well he did on the trip.
I have to admit, I was pretty nervous about flying with a 2 ½ month old over the Atlantic. I really had NO idea what to expect. Eli is an angel baby, but I’ve heard of lots of babies having bad earaches during flights. Luckily, Austrian Airlines has a bassinet thingy they mount to the wall for the baby to sleep in. You have to be seating in the very front with a wall in front of you. Unluckily, they could only move me to the front and Jeremy couldn’t sit with me. We figured that some kind soul would take pity on us and trade with him especially since I had a cast on my arm. That was not the case at first. In fact, one woman kept telling me how selfish and rude I was to do that…THEN proceeded to tell the steward that as well. Funnily enough, the two people sitting next to her were willing to switch around, so we ended up sitting next to her! As soon as we sat down, she was going on and on about what a beautiful baby Eli was. I was kind of hoping he would have projectile spit up on her, but to no avail. :o) Here is a picture of him in his super duper airline bassinet…conked out, of course.
When we landed in JFK, everyone around us told us what a great baby he was. They were all pretty nervous when we sat down with a baby that small. They just didn’t know what a wonder he is! We had a pretty long layover in JFK, and we were all zombies by then…all of us except Eli. He can pretty much sleep anywhere…I knew I’d make good use of that neck pillow!
We spent the first several days in McMinnville seeing Jeremy’s family and some good friends. Among the friends were John and Lee Ann (you’d remember them from our Sound of Music video), Adam and Becca (who are expecting Eli’s future BFF in June), and our bestest bud from high school, Lynesa. There were also several get-togethers where Eli got to meet his great-grandmothers and extended family. We got to eat some GREAT southern cooking…I definitely made up for the fact that I didn’t eat well in July due to pregnancy sickness! Here are a couple of pictures of the four generations:

We then went down to Sardis, MS for some quality time with my mom’s family. It was here that my Granddaddy Wayne and Grandmamma Joyce got Eli’s first laugh out of him. Such a special moment! We had such a great time!
When we got back to TN, we had our first family portraits made. I’ll post some pics as soon as we get them in. I can’t wait to see them! It was a long two hours of trying to get Eli to smile, and we learned some neat tricks for getting an exhausted baby to quit crying. If you’re interested, drop me a line. :o)
Then the last leg of our trip was spent in Texas where Jeremy gave a concert at UNT. We stayed with our good friends Rob & Catie, and we had a blast. On Sunday, we got to attend our old church Prestonwood (where I used to work) and had lunch with the awesome music staff too! I was able to have lunch at the Southern Baptist Convention (also where I used to work), and we got to see some other good friends, Ben & Lindsay and their sweet daughter, Clarissa. Eli actually got to first base with Clarissa…mouth open and everything!
So, it was a great trip, and we look forward to doing it again in July. Jeremy’s brother, Jacob, is marrying the sweet Dani on the 18th, and we are so happy for them. I think Eli approves of her too! :o)
